My good friends from 180LA invited me to direct one of the films for their "Unfairy Tales" campaign, done by Unicef to raise awareness and aid for Syrian refugees. The idea consisted of telling these tragic tales in an innocent, children's story fashion. We immediately looked at Alice in Wonderland and what Mary Blair did with art direction and production design, affecting the very way the narrative developed. We did everything in 3D with a graphic, toon-shader finish, and composed it with Anna Caiado's beautiful paintings in the background.
The campaign was a huge success, raising awareness for the Syrian refugee crisis while making them seem just like us, like our kids. And it won multiple awards, most notably Grand Prix for Good at Cannes Lions.
